same H. arizonensis (desert scorpion) tank, minus red heat lamp shining through it...
lol it's so funny to think of folks actually preparing ahead of time for emergent care for a spider, but if they don't enjoy the hobby they can't understand how it's not "just a spider" to us lol

keep in touch and when you're ready we'll figure out payment for shipping. the scorps themselves are my gift to you. didn't cost me anything to breed them, that they did on their own, so no loss for me :)

have a great week,

Kelly

Thats amazing of you and I'm honestly so excited, going to get them as soon as weather is permitting, tank may take me a year to get right, Have big plans for it, ordered the excavating clay and picking up sterile play sand this week as well, trying to get it right for them :D

PLEASE whatever you do, remember that the weight of this tank will be extreme when that clay hardens etc. Make sure that where you have your tank is where you want your tank, or be happy risking the possibility of a hernia if you try to move it afterwards lol

This link is to a keeper who keeps theirs as I do mine, and I think it will help you a lot :)

. For me, in the summer, no heating or lighting. Lots of hides, as you see, and substrate to burrow. In the winter, I turn on a 50 watt IR lamp (the blue moonlight or Black light make them glow a pretty green, but they are very bad for the scorpion itself and can cause death) and I turn the IR on only when temps go below 60 or so, they can handle temps of below 50 actually, but I don't push it.

I pour a little water in the ornamental grass plants I have in the tank (you can see them in the pic) maybe once a month or so, and they have thrived, the original pair even having the brood your new friends came from, although Momma might have been gravid when I got her, as they are known to carry for sometimes a little over a year.

Don't rush yourself, get what you think you want your new friends to have. I have them here for you when you are ready.

Guess what I did? I bought a B. smithi for my Christmas present to myself. Great deal, a 1.5 inch sling for $20 with $10 shipping. Help me with a name :) Spot maybe? lol

Thats awesome! Congrats!!
You can do better then spot lol how about,
Mākurā? thats spider in Napeli or Makaree; spider in Hindi, or even
Hóng tuǐ? red leg in Chinese :p I have so much fun with the naming part of things.

Far as the tank once its set up its going to be stationary, no worries ;)
Had a bad brain aneurysm couple years ago and I'm not allowed to lift anything heavy anyway, good thing I have grown kids :p

I am so glad to hear you are soldiering on through such an illness. I can't imagine the pain you must have felt. Very good to know you have this hobby to keep you happy :) I like your suggestion of names, too. I would have never thought of those myself :)

I've been reading threads on the forums I'm on and had actually just read that one :p
Ok, the tank is a twenty tall, is that going to be good for them or not? It will allow deeper substrate for sure, have been searching for good quality resin or plastic aquarium safe rocks, so they won't crush these guys if they burrow to deep under things.
My kids informed me I was a very sad individual to be so excited over spiders and scorpions ^.~
The aneurysm was horrendous, no lie, 3 brain Surgeries in 4 days but, they eventually got it to stop bleeding. They tell me I'm lucky, I told them I was just to stubborn to go till I was ready :p
Anyway! Have a beautiful day! I'm sketching ideas for my future scorpion enclosure :D

Yes, the twenty tall is fine, as they are obligate burrowers and need the depth for making their, well, burrows. lol
Rocks: use what you find in the woods or on the beach. place them in the tank first, then fill the substrate around them so that the tops of the rocks are above the sand :)
Your kids think it's neat that you are the way you are, it's just "not hip" to admit it :)
Good for you beating that aneurysm! You go you stubborn old broad you! :)
You have a beautiful day, too :)

@Kymura

P.S. I put a couple of new pics in media of your new buddies. If you look closely, one might be waving at you :) The female is in front, she's the voluptuous one, the male is hiding a bit in the cork bark log, cause he forgot to take out the trash yet again probably :)

Great! Been worried about that as I want them to have the room they need.
I'm picking up the sand in the next day or so, clay hasn't arrived as yet. But once it does I'll get it mixed and set up so it can dry ^^
Went and looked at the pic's, I love the duel tone to them, dark body lighter legs etc. I find them quite an attractive scorpion, really think I'm going to enjoy them so much.

@Kymura

Good! I want you to enjoy them. The substrate will take quite a long time to dry and harden, just be ready to demonstrate uber amounts of patience while it hardens :) Maybe you can find an instructional video on youtube. I saw one once were a young lady inserted pic piping and soda cans in the substrate after she mixed it to start some burrows for them. Neat stuff to look forward to sharing with you :)
