Wow! That's pretty wordy but informative. It is something I have noticed, species like Phoneutria are only talked about in general and when I have gotten mine, they are from very specific breeders using the right questions to ascertain your skill and keeping level. That being said, wandering spiders are my passion along with few very specific tarantula species. Both breeding and just keeping as a hobbyist. I have been a keeper, hobbyist, breeder for over 40 years. I also think by being selective on the species you sell publicly and privately are very different. Unfortunately, per say Phoneutria, it there was a rash of bite history happening, this would draw unwanted attention. Maybe not. When it comes to reptiles in my area, the sky is the limit, which I think is just crazy. I see Gabon Vipers and cobras, and Ghila Monsters for sale publicly on the regular.. To me, that is way worse than what's available when it comes to spiders. In my opinion of course. I think that if the spider community keeps its **** together and abides by the general rule of not cross breeding and generally be responsible, I think hobbyists will indeed be the last keepers and breeders of a lot of species that will extinct soon. I'm about to rant about designer colored reptiles so I will stop there Thanks for the info. Very informative.
