IT'S A GIRL !!! Mini me is actually a Mindy. I put the video of her and sexing the molt in the video section. I figured I'd put the other pics I caught earlier today right here. This is what they look like newly molted. The reds and some other colors don't last long, which is what makes these super special. The video is in the photos and videos section. The other implication is that there will be no surprise slings, not that she was ever large enough to breed anyway. She's still a juvenile, lots of growing up to do. I think she's just a little bit smaller then a DVD disk & these get as big as dinner plates even when blarney is substracted from the DLS, if the hype is to be believed. At least she can still fit into her hide. In fact, she molted there. The reds are actually brighter in the real world, almost as bright as my Lasiodora klugi when she molts. The thing to keep in mind is that these tarantulas are FAR more impressive in person then in pictures. Her colors are an incredible rich brownish black, almost like a tiny bit of purple mixed in. The reds are actually bright on the abdomen and slightly more pinkish on the legs. Yes, they are an advanced species. Yes, temps, moisture & humidity (according to some & not others) is tricky to set up and must be checked at least once a day, but it's worth it. After a while, conditions in the enclosure stabilize and the only thing left to do is keep the water dish full. One other interesting thing is that even after 16 hours, the fangs are still pearly white. With my other Ts, that changes to a pink after this amount of time. If I extrapolate that to when they turn black, it'll be 2 weeks, maybe even 3 weeks. This will be the longest post molt fast in my collection of it proves to be the case.
