So it is about 4 weeks now since my little GBB girl took food. Last week was the last week I offered. She put her foot on the cricket and let it walk away. She sits in pretty much the same spot. Rotates a bit. But her abdomen is so dark!!! I wonder how much longer until a molt? I feel like maybe soon. It's so dark.

Here is a photo of her. She had a little bald spot from kicking hairs and over the past few weeks you can barely tell because it is so dark. I am trying to remain calm and patient. Her abdomen turning dark concerned me, but I understand that seems to be normal.

It won't be long now but only she knows how long
It's funny because I cannot imagine what people did years ago without the internet and these resources. Otherwise I would think the turning dark would be a terrible thing and freak out. She is my first T and first one to be in premolt. I assume as time goes on it will be no thing. But for now I am nervous. I am wondering though, should I not disturb the enclosure? It has been about a week since I changed her water but it has some in it and is clean. Should I replace it as usual with fresh or leave it be as to not disturb her or stress her out. hahaha I know, such noob questions. Thanks in advance.

We all have to learn so no question is a silly one.
Disturb her as little as possible but if you can top her water up do so. They need water available when they're moulting/ I use a turkey baster so I can top them up with the minimum disturbance.

Okay. Great. I can pour in from the lid. I will do that. Thank you. I am trying not to be an overbearing Mom.

Lots of new T owners flushed or tossed them out because they were on their backs. No joke. If you went to the library there wasn't hardly any books on caring for tarantulas. The books you did find really sucked. It's so much easier these days.:D

I think most of us still worry about them even though they've been doing it for so long without major problems.

That is sad. I am so glad today there is this forum and YouTube. :)

She still has a dark plump abdomen. I have not offered food since she last refused. I'm leaving her alone except for toping off her water when she needs it. She pretty much sits in one spot. She sits on a slant. Kinda leaning on the glass. I'm still waiting. I'm still nervous. She looks good. So I will keep waiting. I thought I would post an update. How long can a premolt last I wonder? I guess it varies.

I totally understand where you are coming from. When my little B.Albo was about to molt, it looked like she was about to explode! And then when I checked and she was on her back, I kinda freaked a little. Thank God I was prepared as to what to look for because of this forum and the panic turned to excitement. Now my A.Chalcodes is looking the same way, all plump and shiny. So hoping he will be molting soon. This will be my second time with him and hoping he does it in the open. Last time was in his burrow and I couldn't see anything. He is out a lot more now. Good luck with your little girl!

She looks like all has gone well. I will eventually get her molt out. Of course it's under a bunch of webbing so that will be a task to do. Her abdomen looks so small now. I will wait about a week and offer her a cricket. She's so cute!!! I made it through my first Tarantula molt. Thanks everyone!!!
