I have some good news about my T stirmi Mini me. He's going into very early premolt. Despite that, he did eat 2 crickets I put in but not in front of me. I think he won't eat unless it's 100% pitch black. I've heard that behavior is very common with wild caught specimens. This is why it's a good idea to keep photos of your tarantula. This was taken on May 20. This was taken on May 22. These were taken today. If you look carefully, you can see a shade of grey that wasn't there before. He's also been more reclusive lately, unusual to even see him out. So now I can stop worrying about some horrible unknown tragic thing happening to him or alien parasites exploding where my tarantula used to be. Now, I can start worrying about the molting process in my usual fashion. Nope, wait a minute. It'll be worse because some have had molting complications or wet molts. This means it'll be 10 times worse, not for the T but for my state of mind. Everything is properly moist, proper temps, humidity etc. Clean water is in the dish. The frog moss is just wonderful for stabilizing the conditions. Still, regardless of what the pics actually look like, he's actually much more striking in person. When he does molt, those browns and maybe other color toned will be fully in place. I will get better pics. I might even consider getting one of those full spectrum lights instead of relying on just the flash from my phone + my tactical flashlight using the 200 watt nonflashing setting. He's really calmed down a lot. Establishing a routine seems to help.
