That way they hold. Also, it's like a roach motel with many floors, so they're off the floor and not crushing each other. U put a bowl with Roach food n another with water gel, opposite the egg crates. I fill another small bowl with sliced apples or lettuce every 3 days as well. I never spray them....there's plenty of moisture with the fruits/veggies, water gel and humidity.  Mine are in a 10 gallon glass tank. It has a screen lid that I covered with thin plexi and drilled vent holes.  It apparently works because they're multiplying like crazy. I DO change the water gel once a week b/c it gets nasty by then. Having this many is crazy. I fill their empty bowl w roach chow and 30 seconds later the bowl disappears and there's a mountain of them on it.</blockquote>
