Arachnids actually sense (similar to taste / smell) with the urticating hairs on their bodies. This is strongest on their pedipalps and front legs. They can sense any substances from lotions, soaps, food or anything else you touch on your skin. These things may not agree with your tarantula. I've also heard they don't like the oils on our skin. Some tarantulas may be more tolerant than others.
