It turns out, I was wrong about her age, and she is actually 8 years old. (Or at least he had her for 8 years) He also told my boyfriend, that he was really amazed that she'd allowed me to hold her when we went over to get her. He said that in the past, she has flung hairs at every stranger she met, and even sometimes him. He is very amazed that Blanche hasn't got me yet. Yikes! I almost wish he hadn't told me that. I don't know if I should be afraid of her now, or just take it as a compliment that she seems to do just fine with me. When I cleaned out her enclosure last night, I had my hand in there quite a bit while she was still in there, and even lifted her log with her part of the way on it, and gently encouraged her off of it by slowly tilting it. She never once moved away from my hand, or displayed any type of posturing. Do tarantulas get used to your scent? I won't need to do any more changes in there for quite a while, but I may need to remove prey items and such, and I really hope she will continue to act calmly with me.Another thing my boyfriend was told, is that the Boss would be surprised if she lived another 2 years. He said he's had many tarantulas like Blanche in the past, and none have made it past 10. I thought that was interesting, as I have read that they can live much longer, around 15 - 20 years. Maybe they are older when he buys them? Any way, he thinks I'm being silly, changing up her substrate and adding new foods to her diet. He said she was fine the way things were for 8 years, so why bother? My boyfriend knows that I am just trying to take good care of her, but he still thinks it's funny that I care so much about a spider.</blockquote>
