How can I keep my T from getting too cold? I'm worried that when winter comes and temperatures drop to 40/4 degrees, he's going to get too cold. I have an undertank heater but it hasn't been getting very warm. I also have a space heater, but those can be very expensive to run. Any advice?

Sure, only if you don't provide an area for them to escape and cool off. Do your research on those who really do require extra heat elements, and provide accordingly. Most do fine without some heating element. For those species, think of it this way: if you're comfortable, they'll likely be comfortable.

i have read a few articles online claming that heat mats are bad !!!
heat mats are just like ALL !!! other heating eliments and can dangorus to invertebrates if there not set up correctly !!! I have been useing heat mats the whole time iv been keeping Ts & have had no problems what so ever ;)

IMO space heaters are to expensive to runn
Unless u have a large collection (50+) as there super expensive to runn !!!
Heat lamps & heat cable will cook your Ts quicker than any heat mat if not set up correctly & will dry the enclosures out faster than heat mats so it's harder to keep hummidty stable with them !!!
Have u had a bad experience while useing heat mats ???

I use a space heater :/ it gets very cold where I live during winter. Heating pads can burn their feet if it's placed on the side of the enclosure. I have read about... is it called copper tape? Or something like that? I heard pretty good things about it :) may be worth looking into.

I know lots of experienced keepers who live in very cold regions. None of them use heat pads or mats. There's no reason to. You only need to heat up the room itself. A space heater or portable heater will achieve this.

I think your missing th POINT chubbs !!!
space heaters are good, I have one my self but they can be pricey to runn !!!! (Compared to heat mats)
1 x space heater 2000+ wats
4 x heat mats 100 wats
There are pros & cons to useing both !!! (But both do the same thing & both do it well)

P.S I would use a space heater if I had a room full of Ts (50+) but there is just no need to for a small collection !!!

Yeah, that's why it's tough for me, space heaters are just so costly. :(

Well that might be a sacrifice you have to make for the well-being of your tarantulas. Not sure what else to say about that.

If I fail to get the right temperature (I'll continue to do the very best I can), will my T be okay? I don't want to hurt it

I don't think anyone can really say for sure. If you can't keep the room at a decent temperature, I'd suggest not keeping tropical species.

Any time I thought my t's were getting too warm I'd put a bottle top or something to keep them far enough off the heat to not bother them. I live in a basement... At best my room is 62-65 Fahrenheit. I have yet to have any issues with a heat may. You can always keep them elevated off of it if you think it's too warm
