I live in Western Australia and got my first T about 9 months ago. She’s a KOTZMAN BIRDEATER/SELENOCOSMIA STIRLINGI. Well that’s whst the pet shop said she was? She’s approximately 5yrs old? There really isn’t much info on this species on the net? The problem I have is I fed my T about 2 weeks ago. I fed her 1 cricket and she nailed it so I went to get her another but the wind blew over my cricket container and they spilled out on the carpet outside my room which is outdoors. I had a problem with fleas on the carpet so about 1-2weeks before my last T feed I sprayed the carpet with a fly snd insect spray/surface spray. When I went to get the second cricket I found one on the carpet and grabbed it and put it in my T’s enclosure. I didn’t see her eat it but it’s not in enclosure anymore. I managed to find 3 more crickets on the carpet and put them back in there container but the next day I noticed they were dead or dying, one was upside down foaming at the mouth. About 2weeks after feeding my T this maybe contaminated cricket? I haven’t seen her for a week now when since I’ve had her I’ve seen her nearly every night? I’m so worried I’ve killed her. Should I dig her up and check on her or just leave her alone. I’m soo worried she’s dead. Please help me

Honestly theres nothing you can do anyways. I would leave it be and hope that it's in premolt.
Thanks for your quick response. I’m also hoping that she’s in premolt as she hasn’t malted since I got her. I truely am so worried though. I’ve grown quite attached to Scarlett(named after Scarlett johanson aka the black widow) I would be devastated if I killed her.
do you know much about this species? There isn’t much info on her and don’t even know if the pet shop got the scientific name right as they spelled it wrong on the label?

Your probably find some info out there.but it's the same thing again people buying spiders and don't know anything about it.or something. It's not your fault, pet shops are all the same.maybe your right maybe premolt. Fleas will head for any warm areas including your spiders housing.

I’ve actually looked up a lot of info on t’s and watched a lot of vids. I’ve always been fascinated by turantula’s. She was a birthday present so I didn’t even know I was getting her but when I did I did my research. I know how to look after her, I just made a potentially deadly mistake. I think it was about 2 weeks after spraying my carpet that this happened. Didn’t think the fly spray would still be active.
I don’t have a problem with fleas inside just outside where the dog lives but I’ve got them sorted now.
the question I need answered is could a cricket that’s contaminated with insecticide kill a 5yr old T? I’m trying to resist the urge to dig her up to make sure she’s alright. I don’t want to disturb her if she’s molting but I’m so worried bout her.
the advice I’ve got is to just leave her as there is nothing I can do but for how long? I need to know if she’s alright.

It could be coincidence that the crickets died after you recaptured them... Honestly the best thing is to leave her be.. You could cause more harm than good disturbing her- she maybe buried for some time before she moults so unfortunately it may be a long wait before you see her although I can understand why you would be worried..
But nothing you can do but wait, as for what species she is I'm not clued up on Australian species as in the UK we don't get many appear for sale only ones I know of are selenocosmia and phlogius? Hope that helps :)

Thanks mate for your response, just you saying that it might be a coincidence that the crickets died has put me at ease a little lol. It’s just so hard not knowing but the info I’ve researched says that they can stay buried for several months at a time during premolt so I’m hoping it’s just that? It’s just so worrying that in the nine months I’ve had her I’ve seen her every night. She always comes out for a walk when the sun goes down. I miss seeing her as she’s a beautiful looking spider.
once again I appreciate your response mate. I hope you and your family are keeping safe over in the UK. Kind regards Gary(burnsy75)

Can anyone tell me if this is a
KOTZMAN BIRDEATER TURANTULA
(SELENOCOSMIA STIRLINGI)
Apparently the kotzman is a fairly new breed of T so don’t know if it is what the shop said it is? As you can see they even spelt the scientific name wrong so I’m not sure if they even really know? I need an experts opinion? Also do you think she looks like a female?
