Hello! I'm a Finnish biology student and I'm just starting to prepare for my first pet spider. I keep some other inverts and fish and have been interested in spiders for a long time. Over the years I've had periods of increased interest in tarantulas and researched their care but never got to the point of actually thinking about getting one. Recently I had the opportunity to speak with an arachnologist and held a recently discovered tarantula (one of the only two in captivity right now, how cool is that!). That inspired me and kicked my interest into full gear and I dug up all my old bookmarks and dove into research! Honestly, with any animal or plant I think I enjoy the process of researching them as much as I enjoy setting them up and caring for them. So now I think the time is right for me to start narrowing down which species would be suitable for my first spider and as I'm getting closer to spider keepership i wanted to join the forum and the communally accumulated knowledge of its members <3 I've actually joined a couple different forums to find the widest array of people and knowledge so I might be spotted elsewhere with the same username! I think I'm mostly drawn to arboreal and semi-arboreal tarantulas like the C. versicolor but as I am interested in pretty much all of the Ts I might not get one of those as my first spider and am looking into the more beginner species to start with. The beginner ones are pretty and interesting too! Apart from arachnids and other pets I'm also interested in art, books, hiking (my profile photo is from a recent trip to Ovre Dividal in Norway) and crafts (mainly crochet and other fibre arts but I like to try new things). I might venture into to the off topic forums to gush about some of those too! Happy to be here and hope to run into you all on the forums!
