My mature male B. Smithi broke his leg. He was walking funny and upon closer examination I saw what had happened :( He's about 7 months past maturity so it's almost his time but it's so sad to see him suffering like that because he's such a great spider. :( You can see on his back leg the scab on his foot :( If anyone has any advice please let me know.

Thank you!! It looks like it has bled cuz there's a little scab but it doesn't look like it bled too much. So if it is hurting him he'll take it off? I guess that's a good sign that it doesn't hurt too bad. He still walks around.. Id think if he was in pain he wouldn't move too much.

Tarantulas don't have a nervous system like ours and don't feel pain like us (imagine yourself tearing your leg off in a critical situation). A little wound like this can stop bleeding by itself. If it doesn't stop, the tarantula will tear its leg off. It will otherwise bleed to death. There's a valve at the top of each leg so after the leg comes off, the bleeding stops (something like making a tight knot around your leg if you're bleeding heavily). Then it regenerates it in the course of two molts (unfortunately, yours is a mature male and won't have that chance). If it continues to bleed, put a small drop of glue on the wound.
