well i got my first T's today. alfter alot of reading i decided to get a few. im long time invert breeder/keeper but never T's. well i got some freebies with my orders so now i own. 3 A. versicolor, 1 gbb, 1 boehmei, 1 albo, and 1 salmon pink (LP). ok now for the story. i put the gbb in a small critter keeper. come back 1 hour later he is gone....yikes, after just talking the wife into letting me keep them, and promise they wouldnt get out. now this, haha. luckily she was on the phone. i searched and finally 10 min. later, i find it top corner of the room at the ceiling. wow sooo lucky, i was in total panic, well now i have taken all my enclosures and glued mesh around all the vent holes, lol. i was thinking man there goes my T hobby before it even got started.....i think she is actually starting to like them.....at looking distance that is. fingers crossed no more escape, but i think i got all the holes covered.

Congratulations on your new arrivals. Ts can squeeze out of amazingly small holes, you were lucky to find it so quickly.

Oh man, that could have been bad, wife would no doubt not be thrilled to have a curious avic walk over to check her out :p

Congrats on finding the little gbb, i don't think i would be able to find it as fast as you did. I had a Tokay Gecko get out, didn't find her for 3 months.

What size is the GBB and the kritter keeper? I've only had one T escape a Kritter Keeper, that was a 1/2" B. boehmei crawling through the larger holes where the handle hooks into the top. I've not had any yet escape through the tiny vent slots around the top. Maybe i'm just lucky? :)

that's what we used for ours at that size. they can't fit through the vent slots or handle holes at that size on that Mini KK. You got a mystery ;)

It's just that some spiders find the exit, some don't :) My avic slipped through a hole I would have thought was impossible..ever since then I worry about the slings, and I've just read too many threads about sling escapes from critter keepers...I would never trust one, even with a 1.5 inch specimen. Too easy to buy a tupperware container for 2 dollars.

Agree. Plastic containers like tupperware and a few top and side holes for cross ventilation is the way to go with slings. I have a really good collection of them now. No good for food though now......lol

i just don't like the looks of deli cups or tupperware. All of mine are in amac boxes, except 2. The B. boehmei is in the small KK but he doens't usually climb and is almost to wide (across the carapace) to fit through the slots in the lid now. The other one is the A. geniculata, and he's in a large KK. But he is too wide to fit through the slots in the lid, and spends 90% of his time still in his hide.

The only enclosure i've had to worry about an escapee in, was that one i put together the first time from Amazon. The vent slots in it are just over 1/4" wide and vary from 1/2 - 1.5" tall. I had to hot glue 1/4" hardware cloth over the vent slots to make sure the genic wouldn't escape when he was in there.

That's also why I don't use KKs. Just because your Ts haven't gotten out, it doesn't mean they can't. I've had too many Pedes escape from KKs to ever trust using them again (plus, IMO, KK tops are really ugly).
