I've had to try three different substrates and two substrate mixes until I finally found something she liked, and that's another reason I don't want to switch it out again. She seems to be a very picky spider.
The reason she was never using her hide was apparently from what I believe was due to moisture, which is why she moved into it once I had the second water dish in the Tarantula Crib.
It's white, maybe 25-40% of the way deep underground has some of it, some of it looks a bit stringy and the other bit just looks like typical mold. None of it is anywhere near the surface. I have one spider in a 12" enclosure which is the one that has an issue. It does have very good cross...
There is mold growing throughout the substrate, do I need to replace it all or can I leave it alone unless it starts growing on the surface? I would replace it right now, but I would need at least four bags of substrate, and she finally took to her hide. I over-moistened the substrate a bit...
She's 1.5" and the enclosure is 12", is just a water dish enough for this species? I feel like no matter what I try, I see a warning sign of each side of the coin. Can I try just water dish and nothing else in terms of moist corner?
I added a sizeable moist corner this time after switching out the substrate because I felt it was a moisture issue due to the size of the enclosure and ventilation, but maybe I'm wrong and it's actually been overdone.
I've been struggling to figure out what's wrong with my b. hamorii, she's been acting odd whether I use completely dry substrate or just a moist corner, and I am looking to figure out signs. Is attempting to dig looking for humidity, or could it also be to escape it?
