Oh no I keep them as pets unless they decide to breed. But all of them look so much different from each other and there is so little information of them and sexing them. :O

You could try to use spoon to scoop it out. Tea spoon or something of the sort. How deep is it burried? And do you have any springtails?

Yes they need so much more space because the vertical is not enough, when they molt (at least all mine) lay down on the ground. Rarely do I see them make hammocks.
