My collection cabinets are now fully automated, capable of controlling/ alarms/ monitoring/ data logging remotely via wifi. I can program it gradually change temperatures automatically depending on time of day, or even time of year, also can set to gradually change photoperiod/ tmp throughout...
I decided that I am going to go ahead on using a computer/ controller from my old reef aquarium to automate the temperature, photoperiod and ventilation in the cabinets I'm moving my growing collection into.
It's a thousand dollar piece of equipment sitting in storage doing nothing so why not...
So, before anyone chimes in saying this is all unessasary -
I am obligated to keep my collection in a sort of secure cabinet due to having an inquisitive "semi aboreal" Bengal cat, I also keep my place at 68°f year round - which is likely fine for nearly any T- however I want to provide the most...
Because of the amazing selection and awesome prices, not to mention stellar reputation, I placed my first order with Tom/ Hardcore Arachnids and received it yesterday- and as expected from a legend of the invert hobby / industry it was expertly packed and all the animals were in excellent...
While I know this species has been in the hobby for a bit as a regional ornithoctoninae sp. When I saw the news story about it a few years ago that a new species of bamboo dwelling tarantula had been discovered, I fell in love with it's looks, esp the gold bands on its legs.
I was at my LPS...
Yes in the past when I have had a bunch of fossorials due for rehouse, I mixed a few small batches of this, usually in about a 1:10 ratio or 10-15% finely ground tidy cats free and clear - a food processor works good and 85-90% reptisoil or junglemix, when wetted down the powdered cat litter...
Stick with eco earth for now and when you are planning out the next rehouse look into Biodudes Terra firma if you want to provide some better burrowing substrate.
While you only have one.... for now...... Those with larger collections might want to look into lacing their substrate like...
I use these little travel size pill containers for medium enclosures, I use legos and centrifuge vials sometimes for small sling setups or I just make sure to drip some water on their webs before bedtime
I got my first T , G.porteri / Rose hair when I was 10 or 11 years old, I had been obsessed with spiders since I was like 5yrs old ( see my avatar lol) so back in 1997 or 1998 I think is when I got my first T. I then acquired a few Avicularia avicularia when I was 15 or so. I had those and that...
If your house never dips below 70, and the cabinet isn't up against an exterior wall in a cold Climate wouldnt worry about adding a heat source.
I have to keep my place at around 68°f to prevent my reef aquariums from overheating, so I kept my slings and OW in a cabinet w heat tape and a two...
How large is the T. albo? was it a confirmed CB? or possibly WC ? I have noticed a lot of the adult/ subadult terrestrial NWs I have kept that were WC would typically "hibernate"/ bury themselves through the winter months every year regardless of enclosure's ambient air temps/ humidity levels.
I use it and I like it so far, makes it much easier to keep track of whos molted, whos in premolt can custom set feed x amount of days after molt, etc etc
