Cricket conversations with Zoltan.

Cricket conversations with Zoltan.

@Shampain unfortunately Zoltan has hit premoult, and just let him bounce away. But I feel you! The other half often has to chase them around the cricket pen and the air is blue! Nasty little buggers :')

@NatashaG I feel you. Hate to wait for them to molt. I've been waiting for a month and a half now for my G pulchripes to molt and still nothing. Her abdomen looks like greaps haha, black and shiny. She can barely carry it around
Zoltan is gorgeous. How big is he?

@Marija The waiting is the worst part, I'm really impatient at the best of times so it drives me crazy :p:cool: Oh wow, a month and a half?? I don't think I could hold out for that long!! I've only had Zoltan for 6 months and this is the second time he has hit pre-moult with me. The first time his abdomen was exactly the same as what you have described, I hope it happens quickly for you! How big is your T? He is about 3 inches, but I've not had the chance to measure him properly, and I destroyed his last moult trying to sex him :D Oops.

@NatashaG My pulchripes is 2,5 inch.
To be honest I might have prolonged her premolt time. When I got her she was already in premolt and was kept in a cup so small she could barely move (I couldn't even fit a bottle cap with water inside) but she has already webbed her molt mat so I was told to keep her in that until she molts and I said ok.
A couple of days later the guy who sold it to me said that I can offer her food but not to worry because there are a few superworms buried in the substrate with her. I mean, who leaves a few superworms with a tarantula in premolt? Because the size of the cap and the molting mat there was no way I could have dug it up so I transferred her to a new enclosure :(
When I transferred her she must have been so thirsty she drank from the bowl for an hour.
I hope it doesn't take much long for her to molt and hope it all goes well after all she had been through...

@Marija Wow, those conditions sound terrible! Poor, poor T :( but it definitely sounds like you did the right thing :D I would have done the exact same! I've always been told that you can't leave live food (especially worms of any type) in with the tarantula, and even more so in pre-moult, so I think that is something that couldn't be helped. At least it shows that you care about your animals!! ;):) I can imagine that maybe she might lay a new mat when she feels comfortable, but saying that Zoltan has only moulted for me once and he never lay one down the first time so you never know! I have all my fingers crossed for you and your T! :D:T:

@NatashaG I do care for them :) they are all my babies.
My little one seems ok, could be molting quite soon. She barricaded the entrance of the hide with a lot of web so that tells me that she feels safe inside.

@Marija I feel the exact same about my animals, it's a mystery to me why nobody wouldn't want to care for them properly. That's brilliant news :) I'm happy for you!! I'm hoping Zoltan will be a quick moult, but he rarely uses his hide so I hope that wont hinder him any.

@NatashaG I thik a lot of people only does it for money. Tarantulas are easy to care for, you don't have to feed them twice a day, walk them or bathe them, teach themo commands... They just stand there and look pretty :)
My G pulchripes molted a day ago, and turned out to be a boy so I named him Lucifer :D
I hope your Zoltan molts soon <3
