I heard a story similar to this years ago. I believe it was Ukrainian but not 100%. A woman had a tree but nothing to decorate it with so spiders spun their webs in the tree. When the morning sun shone on the tree it turned the webs into tinsel. I got this story from a craft vendor that was selling spider ornaments.
