Hi all, my name's Nyx and I'm a former arachnophobe. I got into the hobby of keeping tarantulas after my husband and I started raising our first beetle larvae a few months ago. I realized my fear of insects, especially tarantulas, was based on the unknown and decided to learn more about them!

We got our first tarantula, an unsexed adult B. Boehmei, around the middle of May. His behavior of hiding his face with his legs when stressed helped me empathize with him, which basically eradicated my fear of spiders. I still jump when he moves too quickly, though.

We also recently went to a reptile expo and grabbed a female adult A. Chalcodes, and several slings: a G. Pulchra, a T. Vagans, and a GBB. We also received a Togo Starburst sling as a freebie (who I am definitely terrified of, despite his tiny size)!

Anyways, it's nice to meet you all, and I'm glad to be in a place where I can yell about how much I love staring at my fuzzy pet rocks.

Welcome to the forum & the hobby. You have some nice T's there. My female A chalcodes is one of the few I have named. She is a total character & T vagans are beautiful T's, very underrated. And the G pulchra's are stunning T's.

Thank you! What's your A. Chalcodes' name? We named our girl Tasha. I caught her chewing on some sphagnum moss like spaghetti yesterday! She has an extremely strong feeding response, but I don't know if that is common with Chalcodes. Also, I'm excited to see how the Vagans and Pulchra grow with time! I agree that they are absolutely gorgeous.

My girl is called Hohokam, after the native people who irrigated the Sonoran desert. Partly because of the amount of substrate, she can move.

Hi
welcome to the forum and the community.
Nice collection of tarantulas.
If you don't feel comfortable with the H maculata you can always dind someone with more experience to give ir away to.They can be a handful once they put some size.
