Are there any woods toxic to tarantulas?

It does not look like it. The ASPCA states that Mulberry is safe for other pets. Specifically, Dogs, Cats & Horses.

Later thought. Silkworms love Mulberry leaves & Silkwoms are a popular reptile food, so Mulberry is almost certainly safe.

Some conifers are okay. Apparently juniper bark is safe as long as you use the outer layers of the bark and not the pith or needles.. I still dont trust coniferous substrate regardless.


Im actually thinking about using hardwood sawdust as a substrate instead of coco. It would hold up really well. Way cheaper than coco, not imported either. Oak sawdust would be just as effective at reducing mold. Perhaps some finely processed oak leaves would work for additional mold inhibition
