Anyone else open the lid of their roach colony and just watch them? I know B. lateralis is a “dry” species but they seem to love water? There’s always a gang of them at the watering gel dish. I don’t think they mind moisture at all. I watch as the juveniles straight slap around the nymphs, and each other for dominance of the water crystals. It’s quite entertaining... :D

they are mediterranean in origin, but can survive drier conditions than other roaches. in their native habitat in the mediterranean they likely have access to dew from coastal fog. their natural habitat is very similar to coastal southern california- hot dry summers, mild wet winters, which is why theyre all over the place here
