Just to be clear, this was a joke :)
New world have uricating hairs you absolutely want to keep away from your face, especially eyes and nose. Old world do not but would likely try to munch on it.
Having too many tarantulas (according to my wife) I do not believe they smell at all. This said, the substrate (depending on what you use) might have a small when wet. Decaying preys might also generate odors but it is regardless a good practice to remove them and the feeding balls to avoid bacteria, fungus and mold.
