please help enclosure problem

Hi I'm a noobie t owner and I'm going to my second expo hoping to purchase an aphonopelma chalcodes adult fem and is 10 gallons too big or downsize to 5 gallons and how should i provide her heat I live in nor cal it's cold and I'm gone half of the days I'm scared to leave heater on overnight and what kind of substrate should i provide
