Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the info on this forum. It really helped with preparing for our sling arrival. She has arrived - breeder thinks she is female, could be male. She arrived on Thursday and have her in her deli cup. Was wondering. She webbed well with the breeder and wanted to know how long it takes in general for them to start webbing after being rehomed. I know it depends on the sling but just wanted a ball park figure. I misted the side the day she came and 3 days later and have a moss spring at the top and bottom to avoid drying out as I'm using a nano ceramic. I live in the UK and heat mats aren't getting the heat up enough. I'm aware of the dangers of drying out and have a gradient so the little one can regulate. Please, if you live in the States etc it's different in the UK. One can't just plug in a small heater as it will cost more than cost of a mortgage or renting per month as well as keeping the heating on all day. It isn't realistic. I would prefer to have an ambient temperature and the correct gradient than have the sling cold. Room temp is not enough unless it's between 24 to 28 degrees gradient. It's just too cold where we are in an old house. I have her house in her deli in her 30x30x45 terrarium Prorep with the side ventilation. Have taped up the top and left a bit and taped a section on the sides so there is a through fare of air. I'm really chuffed with the terrarium because there is no way that she will get her teeth through the mesh when older. It's too thick.

She travelled well and molted on the trip. The breeder has said to feed her in 5 to 7 days after she arrived and molted. I'm just checking that we on the right path her. She has been all over and is now on the moss on the floor as she was due to have the side sprayed for some water. That's been done.

Can't wait to see her web. Just wanted to ask how long one would normally wait.

Happy Sunday!

Can you post pics of you're entire setup. I'm UK Scotland to be precise we get some pretty harsh coldness and a heat mat is still more than enough to heat a tank.

What is your temp gradient? What is the temp by the heat mat then away from it and to the furtherest point?
Don't have any slings in my ATM but with the thermostat on the heat mat I can take the tank up to 35c if I wanted that's obv far too warm for any T though. The heat mat is inside taped to the back wall of the enclosure (I use the large storage boxes) and it creates an incredible amount of heat the dial doesn't have numbers but I only put the dial to about 25% to achieve 25c in the enclosure average. The gradient is minimal probs around 1c difference between the front and back of the enclosure.

How do you measure your heat gradient? What size is the box? We placed the heat mat on the inside of a plastic storage box and it didn't increase heat at all. The only heat was where the heat mat was. What wattage and size was that heat mat?

I don't measure the gradient but my thermometer is magnetic so it has been on the side close the heat mat before and on the front and there is minimal difference.

What is the size of the box and your heat mat wattage? Want to compare it to our heat mat.

That's the heat mat I use and the storage box is 50x40x60cm so the heat mat is horizontal along the back inside at close to the bottom.

Thanks. I will try the box. The plastic tub wasn't working at all.

Lol...my questions wasn't answered...lol. I wanted to know about spinning when after rehousing

Haha sorry bud, it can take a while all depends on where it is in its moult cycle. I rehoused an A. Avic that was due a moult and it never webbed until after it moulted which was nearly a month. Things like keeping it warmer though would speed up this process.
