Alice, a hypo cross Boa Constrictor, finally arrived. She's 6 years old and came to me from LC72uk who sadly due to ill health has had to give up his beloved snakes.
I might add she was not in a good mood after a delayed journey when the couriers van broke down and she almost had another delay as the main road through our village was closed due to roadworks in both direction and it was only by the courier threatening to leave her with them to deliver that he was eventually escorted through saving her another 4 days on the van.

Wow what a journey! I'm saddened to hear about Alice's owner, but relieved to know she's going to a good, loving home.

I had a similar looking boa, without those genetics, about 25 years ago. One time I was handling her and she slid down into the couch and wrapped herself around the wood frame. She was about 6 feet long and it took me about an hour to get her out. I did a reverse constriction. When she relaxed I would pull on her a little. She would tighten and I would relax my hold. Rinse and repeat. Alot.

I've kept a few Boas in my time and have missed having one around so Alice will be spoilt.
She's around 6 feet
I've had snakes get into some tricky spots in my time. A corn snake that got between the oven backing and inner linings, a milk snake that went down the overflow in the bathroom sink and came up the plughole with the help of a plunger and a baby boa that nearly got cooked when my son lit the gas to cook sausages, as he shut the door a sausage rolled over so he opened the door and found the boa.

She's beautiful and I'm happy for you. Boas are amazing snakes. I'd love to get one. Someday. Congratulations

Thank you. I have yet to come across a nasty tempered Boa and Alice is probably the most placid girl I've met.

Back in the late 70's early 80's I had a herpetologist friend who did a lot of rescues. And remember one charming girl that he had for a few months with clarity. She was a decent size & had the temperament of an OBT with PMT. It was a 3 person job, to do anything with her, due to her temperament & size. She is the one snake that I have come closest to being afraid of & I am not joking when I say we acquired a rubber dustbin lid to fend off her love bites without risking injuring her.

That is so unusual.

Some animals need an expert in rehabilitation. And good on you for taking care of yourselves around her. I'm not a rehabilitationist. That's quite the animal to have around that is so defensive.

Thankfully yes. Yours look gorgeous. I keep thinking I want to get back into snakes again.

What's stopping you? To be honest I never expected to own a Boa again but when LC72uk asked me to take Alice in I just couldn't refuse.

Mainly space. I often see lovely looking snakes on offer at decent prices locally, where someone has suddenly run out of time to look after them. But the hobby has to stop somewhere & between T's amateur radio & magic I have piles around the house already.

I do a lot of window shopping at my local mom and pop pet store. Lots of snakes and lizards and a few Ts. And as tempting as they are, space is an issue. And these days there are so many color morphs.

My father when he was young kept lots of snakes, including an Indigo snake. To me that is one of the more beautiful snakes. I believe they are federally protected, but I have seen some for sale, so I am not sure if a federal permit is required. They are expensive, get fairly large and poop a lot apparently.

If space is an issue, a Western Hognose will happily live it life in a 2' tank. Added bonuses with them is that they are full of character and active during the day (diurnal).

She was a good snake to have around to show people like RSPCA officers why you touch them with a handling hook f

What a social butterfly of a colubrid. And they are so cute. :)

Wow. What an amazing family history. The indigo is amazing. The poo is copious like a thunder storm splurge and has to be cleaned up asap, but what a gorgeous baby. I follow Richard Bilbo on Instagram and he has also been featured several times on Clint's Reptiles youtube.com. On Clint's Reptiles video on the Indigo of Richard's is amazing. I don't want one, but I am so happy they exist and thank you for sharing such a beautiful family history. Richard Bilbo is like my dream dad with snakes His are gorgeous huge and he is awesome with them. So they are awesome snakes that are so calm. He handles them daily. Unfortunately this species is losing habitat. It is protected.
