After seeing a few comments and memes about introductions, or lack there of, I went back to my first post to see if I had made a faux pas. Indeed I had. I was so concerned and looking for advice that I introduced my 1st T (up to 4 now), but not myself. So, a day late and a dollar short, here goes...
My name is Karen. I live in SC. I am a former bartender turned nurse for the last 16+ years, and there's not much difference btwn the two professions. I recently transferred out of Trauma/ER to psychiatric nursing, hence the handle. I was in charge of the ER and loved it, but I'd seen enough death for a lifetime and wanted to be somewhere I didn't have to tell any more frightened family members that we were unable to save their spouse/ parent/child.
I'm the " don't hurt it!" girl who captures any critter that finds its way inside to take it back outside (roaches included), but would flee the room in irrational terror when it came to spiders.
After all I've seen and done, (it's pretty hard to scare an experienced ER nurse) this fear bothered me and prompted me to look into tarantula keeping.
Fear is now fascination and awe of these beautiful, delicate creatures. I'm still new, so I don't have much advice to offer, so forgive me if I don't chime in to the "help" posts.
Thank you everyone for the advice, the looks and likes, and for providing a place where I can share my new found appreciation (and photos!) that many simply do not understand.
And thanks for not beating me up over my lack of proper intro!

Hello Karen, welcome to the forum. My wife is also a dual qualified Nurse, being Learning Disability & Mental Health qualified & she currently works in a general hospital seeing people admitted with mental health needs, so normally admissions to Accident & Emergency (A & E) as we call it.

Can we expect to see you arresting the next Una Bomber, (Ted Kaczynski) ? Candice DeLong was a former mental health nurse who, as part of the FBI, was involved in the arrest of Ted. If you see any images of Ted just after his arrest in a smartish coat, that was one Candice loaned him.

Greetings and welcome aboard!

Lab tech here. I'm also the one they call when spiders turn up in the lab so I can escort them out. Glad I'm not the only one who gets the looks when you walk by with your hands cupped, go out the door and b-line to the bushes. Bonus points if people see you talking to what looks like to them, the bushes. Uh, cause that's what healthcare professionals do.

Busy nights I'd keep whatever had crawled inside in a urine cup by my keyboard and name it until I could step away for a minute. UA cups make great temporary critter keepers.
