If you don't want your pets or their feeder crawling behind the background, just cut the back of it flat with a hot knife. You can use a lighter to smooth any edges and keep them from making styrofoam crumbs.
Also, you can melt off those weird dots that are in the front with a lighter. Be careful to only melt it and not start a fire though. You can depend the grooves and make more details with a hot knife as well to make it your own.
