Enclosure Heater Question

A buddy of mine has an LP (about 6"?) in a 10-gallon glass enclosure. According to him he is using ZooMed Reptisoil for the substrate. He also says bcuz he cannot keep the household environment ideally warm enough he got one of those 8W under tank heaters. Thinking that I know about this stuff he asked me if it was necessary or okay to use one of these. I don't use them but I told him I would throw out this question to the experts on this forum. Any ideas or thoughts on this? Thanx.

Tarantulas dig to escape heat. Heat mats under tanks kill tarantulas.

If a heat mat is the only choice, put it on the side of the enclosure. I prefer to heat the area my Ts are in.
