I was wondering the best time to move slings up to bigger housing. I have 2, they both came in pill size jars. They are small around an inch or so, I moved one in to a small size deli cup. The problem I see with the pill bottle is when I feed them, the crickett falls right on the spider, also how are babies measured, I have seen the term instar, but have no idea about it. Anh help would be great.

instar refers to moults after embryo. I typically put slings in a vial until 3/4 diagnol leg span, then move em to deli-cups until 1.75" and then a plastic shoebox.

The madness of my method:

1oz deli cup until ~.25"
2oz deli cup until ~.75"
16 oz deli cup until ~2"
3 gal plastic box (sterilite) until ~4"
final move:
10 gal aquarium (for tarantulas reaching a max leg span of 6"
20 gal long aquarium for tarantulas reaching over a 6" leg span

none of this is concrete or law binding. This is just the approximate system of moves I use to house my tarantulas from newly hatched to adult.
