Derobrachus hovorei: Palo Verde Beetle

You can tell summer has approached in my area when the palo verde beetle has arrived. We caught our first one this evening. These things are large. Approaching four inches. They have very large mandibles but I have never been bitten.

And yet it's not on your hand..lol. Those resemble water bugs too much for my taste. Waterbugs WILL bite you, though. Impressive specimen

It was in my hand. I picked it up and put it in my kids container. I also had it crawling on my shirt. If you put it on your shirt they'll crawl around for a while. They're really cool.
