One of the most thrilling and challenging aspects of owning a tarantula or two (or more) is rehousing. Rehousing is the process and the art of moving a spider to larger enclosures as they molt, grow and mature. There are many ways people successfully "rehouse" tarantulas, or any similar animal, using a multitude of methods; this is how I do it. On a workbench, in any room I want, with 100% control using materials made from ordinary household items. For your consideration.

Here's some random photos of rehousing some Poecilotheria males without a bathroom.

I use a catch cup and a bamboo skewer split so it's really thin.

Place the cup over the top of the old enclosure. (If your enclosure is too big for the cup place a piece of cardboard over the top of the enclosure and cut a hole out of the center for the catch cup, here's some examples).

Slide thin bamboo stick in between cup, enclosure or cardboard if your using it.

Gently persuade your spider up into the cup.

At this point you have two options. Gracefully place catch cup over new enclosure or slide cardboard underneath to move it to the new enclosure.

From here i give the spider a little puff of air from the lid of the catch cup and they usually run down. If not you can persuade it with the skewer.

Rehoused all 3 pokies in under 5 minutes while taking photos. The best part is no bathroom. :D

You can use the above photos to catch a terrestrial Tarantula. Just cup and slide a piece of cardboard slowly under the spider. You can also slowly move the spider in the cup onto the cardboard as well.

My tarantula room thread is full of ideas, husbandry and enclosures if your seeking inspiration as well.

Awesome, I been watching many rehousing vids, this seems way easy for sure, also been watching a lot of Tom Moran rehousing vids too, so I also learn how to theoretically keep all the T's in my imaginary collection. Thanks for posting this.

Any ideas on rehousing a 3" juvi p.metallica? I was thinking of putting into an adult enclosure and skipping the mid size altogether. Wondered what you guys think about that?
