Hi all,

About to order my first tarantula. Decided I'm going to order one from thespidershop.co.uk. I have two questions that I hope an experienced owner may be able to answer.

1. They sell a starter kit on their website. Is it good value for money or should I shop around?

2. How much food should I order to begin with?

Many thanks, Lubo.

I’m sure one of our European friends will chime in to tell you for sure about the starter kit, but I say if it isn’t a total ripoff then go for it. There is nothing wrong sith making your first tarantula experience easier with a kit.

As for the food, it depends on what tarantula you are getting and what size it is. Either way, you might want to find a local source of feeders so you don’t have to keep a bunch of crickets at a time.

Also, congrats in advance on the new spider!

Both excellent choices. GBB in my opinion in the ultimate all around perfect spider. Good starter species, beautiful, active and easy to care for. There are a lot of people on here with infinite amounts of knowledge that are more that willing to help. Congrats and we love pictures around this joint!!!

one tip i can give is give some thought into making sure the housing is escape proof. ideally you want a door/lid that locks automatically as it closes .

Hello all!

As it turns out, a colleague of mine is into the hobby and has 35 tarantulas. He's given me a lot of advice so I've ordered the supplies I need and my first tarantula will be with me this coming Wednesday.

I've opted for a juvenile GBB. I'll upload photos when it arrives.
Good choice! You will not be disappointed.
