The reason to catch these is that it's the last day she'll be of this size. She gains a lot of size between molts & probably will be able to span floor to ceiling when she molts. I saw the molting web just as I was about to give her an Earth worm, the monthly earthworm.

This is gonna be good. I'm always nervous but I think she'll pull through because I've created perfect conditions for her prior to beginning.

been thinking about the earth worm thing, wondering if my gal would enjoy them, do you clean them somehow prior to feeding?

Not usually. I shake them off. Earthworms are just in substrate not sewage. There's nothing wrong with dipping them into water first. In some cases especially with my scorpion, she'll let the thing burrow half way and then rip it out of the ground. The worm will usually start to burrow in the substrate or thrash around and get dirty again as it is being captured. I just feed one per month and one as the first post molt meal. They probably an a lot of hydration in addition to a different mix of nutrients.

T blondi and a few others are reported to hunt worms in the wild but I'm not 100 percent sure of that.

In any event, I think it's a way better option them a pinkie mouse or hatchling chick.

I saw one video where this guy feeds feeder fish to his H gigas from a fish bowl right in the enclosure!!

It's interesting what they can do, or put up with.

not to worried about the pesticides Enn, they breed them like folks do all the other feeders, worst case is they burrow away in the enclosure I suppose, may pick up a small container and see if any of mine like them, I wont do pinkies or chicks. so worms are a viable option.
Also, saw the fish thing, amazing! Arachnids are such interesting creatures :D Love them ^*^

@Enn49

I get the earthworms from PetSmart where they are grown as feeders in pesticide free conditions. I wouldn't do wild caught ones unless it was a last resort as in literally no feeders available anywhere.

The ones you get from bait shops, in my opinion, should be treated as wild caught because you never know.
