Trying something new

Just picked up this bag of potting soil and top soil do y'all think this will be ok for my ts
I think it will be okay as long as it's organic and has none of the harsh chemicals in it used for plant growth. Are you going to mix it with coco coir or use it as the main substrate?

I'm not sure, I use coco fiber. That being said, one bag has a tomato on it and says that it is natural & organic, so it would appear that if you can plant edible plants in it, it should be ok. The other one says "lawn and garden"... Tomato garden or flower garden?... You see where I'm going with this, right? Maybe call the company and ask them if it's safe to use with edible plants or just ornamental. Any chemicals or inorganic fertilizers used? etc.. Again, I just use coco fiber, so I really don't know for sure. I would hate to lose my T over substrate. Personally, I wouldn't chance it, but someone with experience in mixing their own substrate will be more helpful. Hope this helps and best of luck!

I would worry more about mites than anything if its organic. I have had issues with the blood suckers (literal) eating my tarantulas alive.... they were an amber color. Not sure where they came from but I noticed it only happened when I used top soil/garden soil as a "main" in my terrariums. It didn't happen when I used them as a mixture in sand/coco coir. I don't believe there are any "chemicals" in them that would harm your T's, though.

Coco coir is usually ok for anything. you can pack it if you need to, leave it loose, dry, wet it, it's free from mites and if you have lots of Ts you can even buy big sacks of it like I do. Interesting experiment and I dont want to rain on your parade, but I would stick with coco coir personally. :)

Just an observation, but the right hand packaging, says.. "Top Soil" at the top of the packaging, but lower down. Lawn & Garden Soil conditioner, adds Organic matter & Sphagnum peat moss to existing soil."
