Sure, just make sure it's untreated with anything and that it's a dry species due to mold. No Pines or fir types. :)

Also no Cedar, Pine, Fir or other resinous woods they have natural insecticides. Stick with hardwoods or corkbark.
Bake it in the oven at 250 degrees F. for an hour or so to kill off any pathogens, mold, bacteria.

the wood type is important as location picked from. Pine trees, fir trees, cedar trees and others have natural pesticides that they produce internally. dont use any but hardwoods.
