Well, I've seen a thread for music, but not for this form of entertainment, so figured I'd go ahead and make one. Movies and film making in general have always been things I really enjoy. Many see movies as just entertainment, but I see many films as works of art, on both a technical aspect and an entertainment one as well. While I enjoy great special effects, I've always seen that as sort of the icing on the cake. I suppose my favorite genres would be mainly action and science-fiction, but I also like a lot of horror films as well. Some of my favorite directors include Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick, John Carpenter, Francis Ford Coppola, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan. Favorite actors include Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Biehn, Sigourney Weaver, John Goodman, Bill Paxton, Harrison Ford, Same Neil, Kurt Russel, Jeff Goldblum. Favorite comedians or comedic actors include Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Robin Williams.

My favorite movies are Hobo With A Shotgun, all the Evil dead films, Feast 1 2 and 3, Dead Alive and planet terror. There might be more that I did not name but you got a good idea.:)

I see an occasional movie, and usually enjoy them to some extent or another.
Some of my guilty pleasure movies include Avatar, any of the X-men movies (don't judge its a hold over from when my son collected comics and i read them all ) MIB, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, After Earth, (yeah I know it bombed but I enjoyed the hell out of it, so I don't care what the reviews had to say lol)
I always feel like if it can wring honest emotion from me, then its done what it needed to. :p

I have never been a fan of Shamalan's films, but if you like it that's totally cool with me. Some people seem to have to remember that movies are like food, everyone has their own tastes. When I critique a film it's usually for fun.

The only X-Men film I didn't care for was The Last Stand.

@Chubbs re: Shamalan films.
I was actually surprised that I liked it too, generally his things leave me wishing I had spent my money elsewhere lol
I'm far from any type of a critic and I'll always give things a fair shot. Even If i think I may not be going to like them.
That one I enjoyed, don't get me wrong,
I wouldn't buy it for my vid library but I'm glad I saw it ^.~

I watch films for the pure entertainment value. Not sure if i have favorites as there are few i can watch more than once. Those few i can watch over again would be Tomb Stone, Top Gun, Days of Thunder (which is funny cause i really don't like Tom Cruise), Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Murder in the First, and a handful of others.

I like comedy, but not the current "it's so stupid you have to laugh" type comedy. That is just stupid. What we call around here the chick-flick comedy is what i like. That really is funny and not close to being stupid.

I don't like horror shows, they bore me and i don't want to waste the money on going to the theater to see one and falling asleep, or renting one and falling asleep. Theater would probably wake me up when someone screamed, but still, waste of money.

I don't really do a lot of movies, or haven't for the last decade or so. Mostly i watch TV shows on Netflix. I like watching the whole season in a row until i'm caught up to what's on TV now, or just watching the whole series from start to finish if they've cancelled the show.

Crime drama is my favorite. I enjoy the CSI series and it's spin-offs NY and Miami. Haven't watched CSI Cyber past the pilot episode though, thought it was pretty boring. I love NCIS. Abby is just awesome! Don't really care for NCIS LA, it's not the same. And haven't bothered to watch the new NCIS New Orleans yet, i figured it'd be just as bad or worse than the LA spin-off.

Then there's the, and my mind just went blank, started as a police and legal drama back in the early 90s, has 2 spin-offs, the SVU unit for sex crimes and the Criminal Intent spin-off for the organized and high profile crimes. Damn, i'll remember it after i post this, or more likely it will bug me for a few hours until i remember the name.

Then there's the reality TV. Love watching Mountain Men, Axe Men, and those kind. I"ll watch survivor just to see the backstabbing and mental games. Greatest Race is fun to watch to see all the places they get to travel to and the challenges they have to do. Hells Kitchen is another favorite. I love watching Gordon Ramsey unload on some of those people lol.

Can't stand the Big Brother crap or the bachelor/bachelorette type. Those just drive me insane. And there are way to many reality shows now with stupid people just doing it to make money, pretty much anything they show on TLC. Like that retarded honey boo boo show, saved us all brain cells when they cancelled it. And i'm sorry i burned a few of your brain cells just for posting it here.

That's not really a current thing to be honest. Hence why there were shows like Mystery Science Theater 3000 that began in the late 80's. Movies like Troll 2 have had a significant impact on how people view bad movies, hence why they even made an official documentary in 2010 called Best Worst Movie Ever. I do enjoy actual comedies from time to time that are intentionally meant to be funny, but some "So bad they're good" films just have a certain charm to them that it's hard not to enjoy them. When I think of a "So bad it's good" film, I'm not talking anything done by SyFy or Asylum. Those have a few funny moments, but all in all are just painful to sit through. They lack the charm that makes certain bad films unintentionally funny.

Movies: I like Horror (not too much slasher type but anything supernatural and/or Zombie, Killer(s) must not be human), Science Fiction, Fantasy, Pixar Animations and Comedy, basically escapism (switch off your brain and go). I don't like Chick Flicks and Depressing Grief Porn.
TV: Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Z Nation (doesn't take itself seriously and gives a few good nod to other programs/movies), The Strain and anything in that direction. Tried to watch The Leftovers but just couldn't get into it.
Oh yes, and most David Attenborough documentaries and animal programs in general.

I love horror films as well, but I prefer ones from the 70s, 80,s and 90s. Not too big a fan of modern horror films. The ones that aren't crappy remakes are either too predictable or just have lame boring shallow characters. Not too keen on zombie films, although there are a few older ones I like. I think a lot of modern horror films focus too much on jump scares and gore. I enjoy some gory films I'll admit, but I tend to prefer a film that has a slow build-up and reveal of its creature/monster. I think a lot of it is that younger audiences nowadays are so used to being shown so much very early on in a film that they tend to be uninterested in slow-burning horror films. When you see too much of the creature it honestly becomes less scary. I'd rather focus on developing the characters and building the story a bit before. That makes the reveal of the creature that much more epic. That's one reason I think films like Jaws, Jurassic Park, Alien, and even newer films like 2014's Godzilla have such an impact on me. Some people thought the 2014 Godzilla was rather boring and didn't feature enough Godzilla. I don't think it was meant to be an action film. Its trying to be like the original 1954 film, which focused more on the relationship between the human characters and Godzilla was more of a background character. It made his reveal much more rewarding IMO. So obviously his doesn't just apply to horror films either.

Exactly! That's almost perfectly describing what I don't like about horror shows now.

So maybe my description of current comedy was off. I still don't think what they call comedy now is very funny.

You want good comedy you want Chevy chase or Dan ackroyd or Martin short, heck even Leslie Nielsen. That's the age of true comedy in my book. Steve Correll is up there with them almost. And I've always enjoyed the early Adam Sandler films. will Ferrell in his early movies was fantastic. But the last few it's like he's trying to hard I think. It's more stupid to me than funny.

I agree about the zombie flicks. Way over kill on those. Even the walking dead got boring for me. I can't bring myself to watch a zombie show our play a zombie game anymore.

If I find a movie and/or television series I like/love, I will watch them over, and over, until the end of time. Movies I like usually include monsters, aliens, dinosaurs, and the supernatural/sci-fi, but I also enjoy thrillers, and dramas. I have mad love for the Alien saga, LOTR, X-Men, and even the Jurassic Park series, endless cheesiness and all. Hell, I still watch Cloverleaf now and again, and will defend my love for that horribly wonderful alien flick. I don't care for too many horror movies, as I find the more current selections to be boring and predictable. No one can produce the same kinds of chills that The Exorcist, The Shining, and the original Carrie bring. I'd rather slice open my eyes than watch a romantic comedy. :p

I lean toward the dark comedies/subject matter with television. GoT (the books are far better, of course, but that's another topic), Dexter, Breaking Bad, House, Law and Order: SVU, Walking Dead...just to name a few.

Of course, there's my Trinity of Guilty Pleasure, stemming from childhood: Labyrinth, The Last Unicorn, and The Dark Crystal. I still make time to watch each of these once every year or two.

Ok I'll bite.
I don't have cable tv so I don't watch any current shows. Chubbs I am a big fan of MST3k and watch an episode nearly every night. Joel or Mike, doesn't matter. Super excited for the new reboot coming soon.
My very favorite movie is Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Never get's old. Love classic film and sci-fi. The Red Shoes. The Women. All About Eve. Aliens. Conan the Barbarian. The Day the Earth Stood Still. It, the Terror From Beyond Space (the story from which Aliens is based).
5000 fingers of Dr T.
Addams Family is still our favorite tv show.
Newer films we love are Prometheus, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Fall.
Favorite guilty pleasure is Trailer Park Boys.

If it was up to me, I wouldn't have cable either :p I don't plan on having it when I move out actually, just a huge waste of money IMO. What I use to watch TV shows (both older and current ones) is a program I downloaded called KODI TV. Also I think you were referring to Alien (1979) because to my knowledge the basic concept for Aliens (1986) was based off of the novel Starship Troopers. :p

i have satellite for football, that's about it. I DVR some of the reality shows like Ax Men and those. Other than that i watch Netflix so i can watch a whole season in a string, or the full length of the show (like CSI Miami's 9 seasons or whatever) over a few weeks.

For me to sleep i have to do 2 things. Watch netflix for an hour or so and read a book. Otherwise my brain doesn't shut down and i toss and turn all night thinking of this and that, that i need to do or forgot.

I don't have cable. I have Netflix and Hulu Plus. Cable is a total waste of money.

As far as movies go, I have a pretty diverse taste I like to think. I love old horror movies(60's and 70's), really old classic movies(Sunset Boulevard, Sitting Pretty, The Thin Man, The Quiet Man, etc.). I love movies that make you think like Fight Club and American Beauty. I love Star Wars and LOTR. I'm a little picky on comedies...i love a lot of mid to late 90's comedies like Can't Hardly Wait.

As far as TV goes, I love The Blacklist, 24, SVU, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Archer, Big Bang Theory(although that's getting pretty old), and also a lot of old TV shows, I love Lucy and **** Van Dyke.

Yeah I don't know what it is about comedies but I find myself being so... particular when it comes to my taste in them. I am more diverse and open-minded when it comes to other genres of movies, but when it comes to humorous stuff, it really has to fit my taste a bit more in order for it to be a truly memorable/impactful comedy (to me). For example, I am just not a huge fan of raunchy humor. Notice I said raucnhy not vulgar or mature. I can enjoy mature and vulgar humor but I don't think either of these types of humors necessarily need to be raunchy in order to be funny or appealing. I mean, the nature of a lot of comedy shows and movies I like definitely have some mature content/humor in them, but I suppose it's a bit more subdued than a lot of recent comedies, and when they do use lots of vulgarity, it's often used a bit more sparingly, which in turn makes it that much funnier. It's hard to explain I guess.

I really enjoy multi-genre movies. My favorite types of horror films are scifi-horror so films like Alien (1979), John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), and David Cronenberg's The Fly would definitely fall under my favorites here. I also am a huge fan of scifi-action and films that combine elements of all 3 of these genres such as Aliens, the Terminator franchise (mainly 1 and 2), and the Predator franchise. Horror-comedies are some of my favorite films of all times. Some of my favorites include the Tremors franchise (1 thru 3), Gremlins 1 and 2, Arachnophobia (1990), Alligator (1980), the Evil Dead sequels (2 and 3, since 1 is more just a straight horror film), Lake Placid (1999) and a few others. I like these because some of them in particular have some really creepy moments but never become too serious or scary, and still have a good blend of humor thrown in. I am a big fan of B-movies, and I especially enjoy the ones that don't take themselves that seriously.
