    Phidippus octopunctatus male

Unlike females, male octopunctatus mimic velvet ants- dasymutilla nocturna, to be precise. This species gets quite large- this male is def 19-20mm, so i believe reports of females being up to 25mm.
  3. Phidippus octopunctatus female

    Phidippus octopunctatus female

Adult female and immature male octopunctatus are cryptic and sedentary and prefer to just hide in plain-sight. They mostly feed on grasshoppers and are ambush-hunters, unlike other phids.
