Poor man's arboreal enclosure for slings...

Thanks! It's currently in a tennis ball can. Hardly fitting for the p. met, but good enough for now.

Poor man's arboreal enclosure for slings...

Leah and Martin, based on this thread I ordered the cups. Now that they are here, I'm a little worried. It looks perfect for avics, but the lid on and off doesn't go as smoothly as I'd like. I don't know about your pokies, but mine don't always go up--sometimes they run straight down. Any...

    Poecilotheria regalis to ultimate enclosure

Pokie keepers, My p. regalis just finished a molt, is now 2.3 inches, and probably ready for a rehouse from the tennis ball cannister I've been keeping it in--I spared no expense :). I am familiar with the general guidelines about spider size and enclosures, but I'm wondering if Pokies are...

    Chaco Golden Knee Sling Worries

Sigh. It's been a day and a half since the molt, and if anything, this tiny little chaco sling looks SMALLER. This little one gives me fits.

Molted today, finally! I'll hold the pic-taking until it's had some time.

    Leg Regeneration, P. regalis

Good. Maybe then I'll stop wondering whether it was shipped to me one leg down or it happened later. Is it common for them to lose a leg?

    Leg Regeneration, P. regalis

I thought it was my imagination for awhile, but it's official. My p. regalis is missing it's right rearmost leg. I don't handle it, it stays in its enclosure, and I have no idea what happened. This is an older sling, but still a sling at just over 2". The leg will regenerate at the next...

Ok. I just noticed everyone's signatures. What is the whole 0.0.0 code? Let the rookie into the secret. :)

    Chaco Golden Knee Sling Worries

Thank you, Leah. I needed that. :) It's so small and fragile and so still. Sometimes I touch the opisthosoma with a piece of floss just to make sure it's still alive. But said opisthosoma shows no signs of shrinking, so I will continue to watch and hope for the best.

    Chaco Golden Knee Sling Worries

Yes. All the prey I offer generally starts out live. The chaco runs from it. After an hour or so I kill it and put the carcass close to the sling, then leave them overnight. The next day the cricket looks just like I left it.

    Chaco Golden Knee Sling Worries

I should say that typical temps have ranged from 72 degrees Fahrenheit to 78. One pinhead cricket is pre-killed and offered each Tuesday and Friday, but they are often refused. I mist one side of the enclosure when I feed.

    Chaco Golden Knee Sling Worries

I got my 1/2" grammostola pulchripes on April 3, 2014, and it looks to be 2nd instar. It is now May 18, 2014 with no molt, though the other species I got at the same time have all molted. I am worried about it, because unlike the others, it has not been a good eater and it is s-l-o-w as...
