He does look like a desert blonde, but there is much need for work on taxonomy in American species, so it is hard to be sure.
At any rate, welcome to the hobby! You can't be the biggest arachnophobe in the world since your cute little T is still alive. And I know a number of former...
Here is a thread where I deal with this issue (pics included). The forum is currently struggling with a vulnerability hack that will give you a warning page. If you can ignore (or report that to Google as false), and get into the forum and thread, my story on the fangs starts at post # 292...
I have had experience with this. My Lp girl broke off both fangs a few years ago trying to find a way out of her enclosure (something I hear they are notorious for). She had molted about a month before and wasn't fattened up yet.
She spent the next 5 months without food or much if any water...
Welcome Jason.
I live in Saskatchewan Canada (just 3 days drive away), but am originally from North GA. And I know a hobbyist who I visit who lives on the East side of the Atlanta area.
Maybe we can visit some day. In my travels u love connecting with other hobbyists and seeing their...
OK, having just read a thread on this on AB (in which the paper's author posts), I think some of my confusion is clearing.
It is not that they are reclassifying B. smithi as B. hamorii, it is that many/ most specimens in the hobby are in fact B. hamorii.
So B. smithi is still B. smithi, but...
I am confused. The first paper's abstract above said that smithi and hamorii were redescribed and that annitha is to be included in smithi. I did not read the full paper (call me cheap for not wanting to pay $40 for it), but the abstract sounds like smithi is still smithi, hamorii is still...
Context might help. Where did you see this spider? How big is it?
My first impression is that it is a Dolomedes species.
But I am not a true spider expert.

I have a mature male who has been mature for about 4.5 years, and he took about 3 years to mature, so they can live longer than you think.
As for size and age, the two do not correlate perfectly. If fed well in a warmer climate, a T will grow faster. I have a female G pulchra who is a year...
Welcome! I too am living in Canada. Are you in the east or west? I am in Saskatchewan.
Sounds like a fee great adds there too. 2 today, 50 tomorrow. Lol.

A B albiceps slapping and biting? It must have been a male as every female albiceps I have ever seen has to be the most docile T ever! Males are much more nervous and feisty.

Hmm. I have noticed that page coming up a few times lately, and yet, if I go back and try again, I get through.
The A. purpurea care sheet info there is curious as well, but I can't help but wonder if that is because the first care sheet on the home page of care sheets is for purpurea.
Gonna...
In general, I would agree with you on care sheets, and I also agree with the link to Mike's Basic Taratunla page. He has a lot of experience and has taken time to put that experience up on the web.
But I would also like to offer another set of care sheets I believe are done well. Granted, I am...
