A avic My Urchin

I was being supervised while selecting her a cricket, she darted out and calmly sat waiting. Such a brat.
@SasyStace LOL! exactly, when she comes low on the wall she expects a cricket (and only a cricket) to magically appear, usually I can open the door, tend everything and she just watches it all calmly, Today she was out the door before i got it open and hanging there, I wonder if they can get spoiled.....

I think they can- if you ask some of the peeps around here they will say things like there is no way possible for them to show favor towards an owner etc etc- Funny thing is that all species can and have displayed recognition towards feedings and owners. Heck I used to have snakes that would wait at the same time and day in the same spot for their feedings- My OBT knows the second I am home and comes out of it's burrow and climbs onto the enclosure. I guess the only person who really knows is the T ;) but I like to think they know us -

HI there. My name is Kelly. I am the proud owner of two T's. One is a GBB, and one an LP. Both were raised from slings in the past year and a half.

The GBB is now about 5 inches DLS and the LP about 7 inches LP. I have some pics of them here on the site :)

Their growth has been relatively slow, but I do live in NY and as much as I try to heat my home and their resting places in the winter to a good 75 - 80, it is more often than not between 68-70.

Anyway, the reason I am responding to your post is because I was thinking of adding another T to my collection, and was thinking of an A. avid and noticed your post here. Do you think, having the two I do now, I am "ready" for one? And what do you house your T's in?

I have the GBB, Jewelz, in a 10 gallon Exo terra enclosure, which she happily webs up in, and the LP, Pickles, is in a 25 gallon high aquarium with loads and loads of cocoa fiber to allow for the digging of burrows Pickles apparently enjoys, that and laying huge web mats all over the floor.

Thanks for your share, and thanks for you response :) I'll ask around the site too.

@Lady Lilith
Hi there Kelly, I have honestly found my avic to be my easiest T, she was a pet store rescue, 2" juvenile and very skittish, now with gentle handling and patience shes calm, never kicks hairs and NOTHING beats how an avic moves, they seem to float around waving those first set of legs.
I know there's a lot of talk about humidity, I listened to the folks here and I have mine in a sterilite box set on end with a LOT of ventilation and a water dish I keep full, shes bright, eats well and seems perfectly happy in there. Can't imagine why an A.avic wouldn't make a perfect fit for you! If your doing well with the GBB and the LP then the avic should prove to be no issue at all.
(I have an LP.....albeit, (s)he is microscopic, .25 of an inch),

@Kymura

HI there :),

Thanks for your response and please allow me to say how BRILLIANT this little set up you have is! I've suddenly become a bit more comfy with the idea of a "real" arboreal. Have you cut the top to make a door of sorts I think is what I'm seeing? Just wondering how I would safely open it :)

Now about your microscopic LP, give it 3 months and that word will no longer apply :)

Posted some new pics of my T's enclosures for anyone who wants to check them out and maybe advise about ventilation. Never worried about it before, but it seems to be a topic of discussion. I think the screen tops are fine for the species I have, and do have the Schultz book and, of course, scour the sites, but everyone has a differing opinion so why not consider all, right?

Thanks again, now, to add my first avic to my "Dear Santa" letter ... (My husband is gonna love this one lol)_

I did cut it, my dremel tool was dead so did it with a box cutter then glued the bottom shut so the door opens while holding the substrate, little messy next time I'll have a dremel and it will be nice and straight. It's well ventilated all the way round other than the front, (handy soldering iron for that part as I already said dremel was dead so had no drill either)
I think you'll adore an avic, mine remains calm as long as I move slowly with her and don't startle her. She will kick hairs at a roach or mealworm however, the princess only eats crickets :p
and she's quite nosy lol!

coke cap evens it out perfectly to sit evenly, back bottom center, i melted through the cap and enclosure then made a hot glue rivet of sorts to hold it securely.

and this should show how well ventilated I made it for cross ventilation.
